How Much Salt Does a Pool Need?
Most Salt Water Chlorine Generators (SWCG) operate best at a salinity level of **3200 ppm**. If your level drops below 2800 ppm, your system will stop generating chlorine.
Note: Always re-test your salt level before adding more bags to avoid over-salting, which requires partial draining.
What Kind of Salt Should I Buy?
Look for **"Pool Salt"** or **"Solar Salt"** that is 99.4% pure or higher. Avoid using rock salt or salt with anti-caking additives, as they can stain your pool finish.
Pro Tip: High salt levels won't hurt humans, but they can corrode equipment. If you need to lower your salt or CYA levels, check our CYA Drain & Refill Tool.
